Behind Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah: Meet Its Art Director at iACADEMY

As part of Academics Week 2026, iACADEMY brought aspiring filmmakers and creative students closer to the industry through the Future Filmmakers Forum, organized in partnership with the Directors’ Guild of the Philippines, Inc.

The forum explored the role of design in filmmaking and how creative professionals shape the visual language of cinema through industry insights and meaningful conversations. Among the featured speakers was Joshua Panelo, also known as Tata Selo, art director of Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah and Rocketship Studios.

Sharing insights on developing a strong visual language, Panelo emphasized the importance of looking beyond the classroom. “First of all, you have to do a lot of research. Research, go to places, watch movies, stories,” he said, encouraging students to continuously expand their creative references and experiences.

Panelo also highlighted the value of collaboration and staying true to one’s creative vision. “Do not compromise on your art and prepare to collaborate with a lot of people,” he added.

Beyond technical knowledge, the forum also addressed the importance of connecting students with working professionals. Panelo encouraged aspiring creatives not to be intimidated by the industry, saying, “Para hindi kayo matakot, there’s nothing to be afraid of sa field natin.”

Through initiatives like the Future Filmmakers Forum, iACADEMY continues to create opportunities for students to learn from industry practitioners and bring their creative education beyond the classroom.
